A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY
FRIENDS AND ADMIRERS OF JAMES R. BURROWS OF SUMTER
WHO DIED WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 1992.
Whereas, James R. Burrows of Sumter died Wednesday, March 4, 1992;
and
Whereas, born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Stanyarne and
Julia Richardson Burrows. A World War II Army veteran and a
graduate of Clemson A&M College, Mr. Burrows was a retired
farmer; and
Whereas, Mr. Burrows was awarded the first Sumter County Young
Farmer Award in 1956 and was on the board of directors of the Farmers
Telephone Cooperative and the State Peanut and Beef Board; and
Whereas, a former director of the Sumter County Farm Bureau, he was
a former trustee of Thomas Sumter Academy, a former director of the
Peanut Growers Commodity Market Association, and a member of VFW
Post 3034, Dalzell American Legion Post 175 and Providence Southern
Methodist Church; and
Whereas, known to many in the community as "Mr. James,"
his contributions to the agricultural profession will be noted for many
years to come; and
Whereas, Mr. Burrows demonstrated the importance of diversity on the
farm. Triple C Farms is an excellent example of a well-balanced
agricultural portfolio. A large commercial cattle operation was
incorporated with his row crops maximizing labor, land, and equipment;
and
Whereas, Triple C Farms is a family farm in the strictest definition. The
majority of his eight children are involved with the farm operation. Mr.
Burrows took great pride in this fact; and
Whereas, surviving are his wife, Virginia R. Burrows; daughters, Kathy
Dennis of Leesville and Doris Anne Butler of Sumter; sons, Jimmy,
Billy, Sammy, Clark, Stan, and Rey Burrows, all of Sumter; sisters, Julia
Burrus of Orange, Virginia, Trudy Brown of Laurens, and Sarah
Dawson of Sumter; brothers, Stanyarne Burrows of Chattanooga,
Tennessee, and Edward Burrows of Greensboro, North Carolina; and
eleven grandchildren. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly extend their deepest
sympathy to the family and many friends and admirers of James R.
Burrows of Sumter who died Wednesday, March 4, 1992.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
Burrows family.
