A SENATE RESOLUTION TO EXTEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE'S PROFOUND
APPRECIATION AND RESPECT TO THE DOOLITTLE RAIDERS FOR THEIR BRAVERY AND
SACRIFICE FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

01/22/02 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-11

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE'S PROFOUND APPRECIATION AND RESPECT TO THE DOOLITTLE RAIDERS FOR THEIR BRAVERY AND SACRIFICE FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Whereas, the Doolittle Raiders are visiting Columbia for the 60th Doolittle Raiders Reunion; and

Whereas, there are twenty-three survivors of the epochal air attack of April 18, 1942, against the home islands of Japan, in retaliation for the infamous attack on Hawaii, December 7, 1941; and

Whereas, the Doolittle Raiders' mission against Japan proved to give a momentous boost to the morale of the American people; and

Whereas, the Doolittle Raiders' daring counter-attack caused the Japanese militarists to change their pattern of conquest, resulting in their defeat in the crucial Battle of Midway; and

Whereas, South Carolinians and all Americans owe tremendous gratitude to the courageous eighty volunteers, led by Lt. Col. James H. Doolittle, who made up, first assembled, and trained the unit known as the Doolittle Raiders in Columbia, South Carolina, at Columbia Army Airbase. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That this body hereby extends its profound appreciation and respect to the Doolittle Raiders of 1942 for their bravery and sacrifice for the United States of America.
